Description
Dedicated to being a touchstone of empowerment for disenfranchised people around the world, Ms. Newsome came to national attention when she tore down the Confederate flag in front of the South Carolina statehouse in 2015, in the name of social justice and equity. Her talk at the University of Washington Tacoma was part of the Chancellor's discussion series, "Standing Together for Justice--In Hope and Determination." After her presentation, she led a discussion that explored how the university could enact its values of accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
